Probate and Estate Administration . The administration and winding up of estates is carried out by our probate specialists who handle such matters in an understanding and sensitive manner with clients experiencing the distress of bereavement. The administration of an estate may provide tax saving opportunities.
Lasting Powers of Attorney . The objective of a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is to enable people, while still mentally capable, to decide who they would like to deal with their personal affairs and welfare, if they were to become mentally incapable through illness or accident.
The LPA can be drawn up at any time while you have capacity and the document can be used after it has been registered with the Court. Such registration can take place immediately or at a later date in the future.
Court of Protection Work (now known as the Office of Public Guardian). When a person becomes mentally incapable of handling his or her own affairs, the Court of Protection can make decisions in relation to the property and affairs and personal welfare of individuals who lack that capacity. We have considerable expertise in this area.
Tax planning . Many people pay too much tax. Our tax specialists will examine ways of reducing your personal tax bill by maximising the use of available allowances, reliefs and exemptions and, where necessary, restructuring the way in which assets are owned. The areas which we can examine include inheritance tax planning, capital gains tax planning and income tax planning.
Trusts . Establishing a Trust may be the best way to govern the succession to assets or to reduce tax liabilities. We can advise about the most appropriate type of Trust including overseas trusts and charitable trusts. Our Trust Management Team will ensure that the Trusts are administered effectively.
Affairs of the elderly. In later life many people require help in managing their financial affairs. We have considerable expertise in dealing with sensitive family issues.
