Travel, Tourism and Leisure
We handle a very wide range of claims from the exotic to the commonplace; from the most simple trip and slip, through catastrophic swimming pool and balcony accidents, to very large group actions. The team has been dealing with a cryptosporidium claim arising from events in Majorca 2003 where there are over 2500 individual claimants.
Most recently the Team has been instructed by various tour operating companies, airlines and their insurers to act on their joint behalf in relation to a new group action following Hurricane Wilma in Mexico in October 2005.
In addition recovery actions are pursued against suppliers where appropriate both in this jurisdiction and various others around the world.
The Team is recognised as one of the leaders in its field in the 2005 edition of Chambers directory and The Legal 500.
Chambers Directory 2009 comments:
With a reputation for doing “absolutely sterling work for insurers and tour operators,” this firm impresses clients with its efficient and effective service. The group defends personal injury claims with an international element - often involving jurisdictional issues - and recently assisted with cases relating to the Disability Discrimination Act 2005, as well as large group actions.
Highly regarded for his package tour expertise, Michael Gwilliam combines “excellent commercial acumen and exceptional advice” with a “quietly impressive, pragmatic approach.” Observers mark him out as “an able adversary who fights hard for the interests of his clients, but is always rational in the way he assesses claims.”
